Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: When performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zones. Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
  1. Disable the SIR system, if equipped with Side Impact Air Bags (SIAB). Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM or to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in SIR.
  2. Remove the front bucket seat. Refer to SEAT REPLACEMENT - PASSENGER FRONT EZ ENTRY  .
  3. Remove the outer trim panel from the seat cushion. Refer to SEAT CUSHION OUTER TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT  .
  4. Unfasten the J-hook retainer located at the bottom of the seat back cover.
  5. Unfasten the J-hook retainer located next to SIAB module, if equipped.
  6. At the bottom of the seat back (1) remove the seat cushion lateral release knob from the recliner.
  7. Remove the EZ entry adjuster cable (4) from the seat adjuster (3).
  8. Remove the EZ entry adjuster cable (4) from the adjuster cable bracket (5).

  9. Remove enough of the seat back pad and cover to access the recliner bolts (1).
  10. Remove the seat recliner bolts (1,2).
  11. Remove the recliner from the seat.
