Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: For the removal of the rear door assembly, perform steps 15 thorough 21.
  1. Open and support the rear door.
  2. Open the front door.
  3. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - SIDE REAR DOOR (PONTIAC)  or TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - SIDE REAR DOOR (CHEVROLET)  .
  4. Remove the water deflector. Refer to WATER DEFLECTOR REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR  .
  5. Remove the inside handle. Refer to DOOR HANDLE REPLACEMENT - INSIDE  .
  6. Remove the window regulator. Refer to WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR (POWER REGULATOR)  or WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR (MANUAL REGULATOR)  .
  7. Remove the energy absorber. Refer to ENERGY ABSORBER PAD REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR  .
  8. Remove the outside door handle. Refer to DOOR HANDLE REPLACEMENT - OUTSIDE  .
  9. Remove the lock cylinder. Refer to LOCK CYLINDER REPLACEMENT - DOOR  .
  10. Remove the door lock. Refer to LOCK REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR  .
  11. Remove the door window. Refer to WINDOW REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR  .
  12. Remove the rear stationary window. Refer to WINDOW REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR STATIONARY  .
  13. Remove the rear door reveal molding. Refer to REVEAL MOLDING REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR WINDOW  .
  14. Remove the rear door electrical harness through the opening in the rear door.
  15. Remove the carpet retainer. Refer to CARPET RETAINER REPLACEMENT (SEDAN) or CARPET RETAINER REPLACEMENT (COUPE) in Interior Trim.
  16. Using a grease pencil, mark the location of the rear door hinges to the rear door.
  17. Remove the rubber conduit from the center pillar.
  18. Disconnect the rear door harness electrical connector.
  19. Route the rear door harness electrical connector through the opening in the center pillar.
  20. With an assistant, remove the rear door hinge to rear door bolts.
  21. With an assistant, remove the rear door from the vehicle.
