Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Refer to SIR CAUTION in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in SIR.
  2. With a flat-bladed tool, remove the defroster grille from the instrument panel (I/P) trim pad. Refer to DEFROSTER GRILLE REPLACEMENT (CHEVROLET)  or DEFROSTER GRILLE REPLACEMENT (PONTIAC)  .
  3. Remove the I/P upper trim panel (4) by lifting upward to release the retainers.
  4. Remove the screws from the I/P outer trim cover.
  5. Remove the I/P outer trim covers.
  6. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY (CHEVROLET)  or TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY (PONTIAC)  .
  7. Remove the screws (1) from the right I/P trim panel.
  8. Remove the right I/P trim panel (3).
  9. Remove the screws (1) attaching the I/P trim pad (2).
  10. Remove the I/P trim pad (2) from the I/P carrier.
