Shift Cable

CAUTION: Misadjusted shift linkage could cause transmission clutch and/or band failure.
NOTE: Most FWD vehicles are equipped with a self-adjusting shift cable.
  1. Set the parking brake. Remove the console. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
  2. Lift and unlock the shift cable retainers. Push the shifter neutral lock clip.
  3. Move the shifter slightly in order to center the lock clip. Ensure that the transaxle is in neutral. Press and lock the shift cable retainers.
  4. Pull the shifter neutral lock clip to its original position. Install the console. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
