Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Did you perform the Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM TESTING  under SYSTEM TESTING.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Observe the Red Brake indicator. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate briefly during the bulb check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to  11.
  3. Apply the park brake. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to  5.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition. Release the park brake. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch and a the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to  10. If not, go to  7.
  5. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the park brake switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the park brake switch and a good ground. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate? If so, go to  9. If not, go to next step
  6. Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for a high resistance or a open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15. If not, go to  11.
  7. Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a high resistance or a open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15. If not, go to next step.
  8. Test the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a high resistance or an open. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15. If not, go to  11.
  9. Inspect for poor case ground or poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15. If not, go to  12.
  10. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15. If not, go to  13.
  11. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Body Control Module (BCM). Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15. If not, go to  14.
  12. Replace the park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE LEVER ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to  15.
  13. Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to  15.
  14. Replace the body control module. See BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to next step.
  15. Operate the vehicle in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system okay. If not, go to  2.
