Brake Warning Indicator Always On

  1. Did you perform the ABS Diagnostic System Check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ABS in appropriate ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article.
  2. Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the BRAKE LAMP parameter in the instrument panel cluster data list. Does the scan tool display Off? If so, go to next step. If not, go to  4.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Observe the Red Brake indicator on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) during the bulb check. Does the Red Brake indicator illuminate during the bulb check and then turn OFF? If so, condition is intermittent. If not, go to  5.
  4. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Body Control Module (BCM). Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  8. If not, go to  6.
  5. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to . 8 If not, go to  7.
  6. Replace the Body Control Module (BCM). See BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to  8.
  7. Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See GAUGES & INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to next step.
  8. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to  2.
