Park Brake Cable (Front): Removal

  1. Remove the console. On vehicles with manual transmission, release the snaps on the shift boot. Using a small flat-bladed tool, remove the front screw cover. Using a small flat-bladed tool, remove the center storage pocket, if equipped. Remove the power window switch plate, if equipped. Raise the armrest from the front floor console. Remove the bolts from the front floor console. Remove the front floor console by lifting up and back. Guide the shift boot over the optional shift knob and over the emergency brake handle.
  2. Release the park brake at the lever. Raise and support the vehicle. Have an assistant hold the cable towards the rear of the car in order to create slack in the cable.
  3. Have an assistant pull the cable until the notch on the ratchet is visible through the cover plate opening. Push the pawl spring downward toward the notch in the ratchet. Have an assistant release the cable slowly in order to allow the notch to catch the leg of the spring. Remove the front parking brake cable button from the reel assembly.
  4. Use the (J-37043) in order to remove the cable conduit end fitting from the handle assembly. Disconnect the cable from the equalizer. Fold over the retaining clip. Lower the vehicle. Remove the left side carpet retainer. Remove the grommet and retainer from the floor pan. Remove the front cable.
