Drum Brake Backing Plate: Installation

  1. Install the backing plate. Install the hub and bearing assembly. See appropriate REAR SUSPENSION article. Install the parking brake cable to the backing plate. Install the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDER .
  2. Install the brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES . Adjust the rear brake assembly. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION. Install the brake drum.
  3. Bleed the brake system. See BLEEDING . Adjust the park brake system. See PARKING BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.
