Steering Column Jacket - Assemble (Off Vehicle)

Important:  Replace the bearing and housing assembly and the pivot pins if the bearing and housing assembly has been staked 3 times.

  1. Install the bearing and housing assembly.
  2. Lubricate the pivot pins with lithium grease.
  3. Install the 2 pivot pins.
  4. Stake the pivot pins in 3 locations.
  5. Install the lower shaft components. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing & Jacket - Assemble (Off Vehicle - Tilt)  or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing & Jacket - Assemble (Off Vehicle - Standard)  .
  6. Install the tilt spring only. Refer to Tilt Spring - Assemble (Off Vehicle) .
  7. Install the Ignition switch assembly only. Refer to Ignition Switch Assembly - Assemble (Off Vehicle) .
  8. Install the lock housing assembly.
  9. Install the windshield wiper and washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper & Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle .
  10. Install the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal & Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle .
  11. Install the lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle (Without Key)  Or Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle (With Key)  .
  12. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
