Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil - Assemble (Off Vehicle): Assembly

  1. Align the block tooth on the race and upper shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position.

  2. Turn the key to the OFF position and remove the key.
  3. Install the wave washer (2).
  4. If you are reusing the original coil (1), center the coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle (Column Shift & Floor Shift) .

    Important:  A new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (1) will be pre-centered. Do not remove the centering tab from the new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (1) until the installation is complete.

  5. Install the new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil down lead to the wire restraint clip (3).

  6. Align the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (4) with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1).
  7. Slide the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (4) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
  8. Firmly seat the retaining ring (3) into the groove on the steering shaft assembly (2).
  9. Remove the centering tab from the new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (4).

  10. Install the wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly.
  11. Remove the steering column and J 41352  from the vise.
  12. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  13. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle .
  14. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  15. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
