Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  3. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  4. Drill out the locking button (2) on the rear of the housing assembly (1) using an angle drill.

  5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder (1) by pulling outward from the steering column.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the ignition lock cylinder (1).

  8. Remove the metal shavings from the steering column and ignition lock housing assembly.
