Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Install the rear axle (2) to the vehicle.
Install the following components to the rear axle (2):
- The rear axle mounting bolts (4)
- The washers (3)
- The nuts (1)

NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
Tighten the nuts.
Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 60 N.m (44 lb ft) plus 120 degrees.
Install the shock absorber lower mounting bolt (9).
Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 70 N.m (51 lb ft).

Install the park brake cables to the rear axle. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement - Right Rear and Park Brake Cable Replacement - Left Rear in Park Brake.
Connect the park brake cables to the equalizer. Refer to Park Brake Cable Replacement - Right Rear and Park Brake Cable Replacement - Left Rear in Park Brake.
Install the wheel speed sensor wiring harness to the retainers on the rear axle.
Connect the wheel speed sensor harness to the wheel bearing.
Install the brake pipe to the brake hose and wheel cylinder.
Tighten: Tighten the fittings to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
Install the brake pipe retainer bolts to the rear axle.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 6 N.m (50 lb in).

Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
Bleed the brakes. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) or Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) in Hydraulic Brakes.
Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment in Park Brake.
Lower the vehicle.
