Unable To Select Gears

  1. Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections? If yes, go to next step. If not, see VISUAL/PHYSICAL INSPECTION  .
  2. Review the system operations in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  . Perform a visual inspection of the clutch system. See VISUAL/PHYSICAL INSPECTION  . Test the vehicle under the same conditions that the customer reported in order to verify the system is operating properly. Is the clutch system OK? If yes, go to next step. If not, go to step  4 .
  3. Diagnose the transmission. See appropriate DIAGNOSIS article in MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. Does the clutch system operate properly? If yes, system is functioning properly at this time. If not, go to next step.
  4. Check the master cylinder. Is the master cylinder worn or faulty? If yes, go to next step. If not, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace the clutch master cylinder. See CLUTCH MASTER & ACTUATOR CYLINDERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Does the clutch work now? If yes, repair is complete. If not, go to next step.
  6. Inspect the clutch actuator. Is the clutch actuator worn or faulty? If yes, go to next step.
  7. Replace the clutch actuator. See CLUTCH MASTER & ACTUATOR CYLINDERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If yes, repair is complete. If not, return to step  2 .
