Clutch Does Not Disengage

  1. Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections? If yes, go to next step. If not, see VISUAL/PHYSICAL INSPECTION  .
  2. Check for a pedal travel restriction. Is the vehicle equipped with a aftermarket floor covering? If yes, go to next step. If not, go to step  4 .
  3. Remove the aftermarket floor covering. Does the clutch work properly? If yes, system is operating properly at this time. If not, go to next step.
  4. Test the clutch system. Does the clutch work properly? If yes, system is operating properly at this time. If not, go to next step.
  5. Test for air in the clutch hydraulic system. Is there air in the clutch hydraulic system? If yes, go to next step. If not, go to step  7 .
  6. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. See BLEEDING  . Does the clutch work properly? If yes, repair is complete. If not, go to next step.
  7. Inspect the master cylinder for worn seals. Are the seals worn? If yes, go to next step. If not, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace the necessary components. See CLUTCH MASTER & ACTUATOR CYLINDERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Does the clutch work properly? If yes, repair is complete. If not, go to next step.
  9. Remove the transmission. See CLUTCH ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for a worn or damaged clutch actuator. Is the clutch actuator worn or damaged? If yes, go to next step. If not, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace the clutch actuator or the release bearing. See CLUTCH MASTER & ACTUATOR CYLINDERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Does the clutch work properly? If yes, repair is complete. If not then go to next step.
  11. Inspect the clutch assembly for damaged or worn clutch driven plate or binding on the clutch disc. Are the clutch components OK? If yes, system is operating normally at this time. If not, go to next step.
  12. Replace the clutch disc. See CLUTCH ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  13. Install the transmission. See CLUTCH ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If yes, repair is complete. If not, return to step  2 .
