Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the brake backing plate.
  2. Install the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear in Rear Suspension.
  3. Install the wheel cylinder (3). Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .

  4. Secure the rear park brake cable end fitting to the brake backing plate. Attempt to pull the park brake cable free of the backing plate, to ensure that the retaining tabs (1) on the fitting are properly secured.

  5. Install the universal spring (1) to the backing plate.

  6. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
  7. Adjust the drum brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment .
  8. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  9. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) or Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) in Hydraulic Brakes.
  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
