Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important

The stub axle shaft sleeve and seal must be replaced together. DO NOT replace the sleeve or seal separately.
Use the J 41228 to install a new sleeve on the stub axle shaft. Ensure that the collar is located in the snap ring groove when installing.

Use the J 41102 to install the new stub axle seal. See Special Tools and Equipment .

Install one new snap ring on the output shaft.

Install the drive axle assembly. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
Lower the vehicle.
Inspect the output axle shaft sleeve for leaks.
Inspect the transmission oil level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure .
