Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Place the I/P carrier (3) into the vehicle.
  2. Install the I/P carrier (3) to the tie bar (2).
    3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

  3. Install the screws (4) to the I/P carrier (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2.3 N.m (20 lb in).

  4. Install the washer switch. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  5. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  6. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  7. Install the air distribution duct. Refer to Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Chevrolet) or Air Distributor Duct Replacement (Pontiac) in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
  8. Install the HVAC control assembly from the I/P carrier. Refer to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement (Chevrolet) or HVAC Control Assembly Replacement (Pontiac) in HVAC Systems - Manual.
  9. Install the end of the HVAC temperature control cable (3) to the door lever (2).
  10. Install the control cable screw (4).

    Tighten:  Tighten the screw to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  11. Install the I/P SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  12. Install the I/P trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Chevrolet)  or Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Pontiac) .
  13. Install the right I/P trim panel to the I/P carrier.
  14. Install the right I/P trim panel screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2.3 N.m (20 lb in).

  15. Install the radio to the I/P carrier. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  16. Install the I/P outer trim covers.
  17. Install the I/P outer trim cover screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  18. Install the I/P defroster grille to the I/P trim pad.

    Press into place until fully seated.

  19. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
  20. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
