Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  4. Remove the LH I/P outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Chevrolet) or Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Pontiac) in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
    IMPORTANT: With the AIR BAG fuse removed and the ignition switch in the RUN position, the AIR BAG warning lamp illuminates. This is a normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  5. Remove the AIR BAG fuse from the LH I/P wiring harness junction block.

  6. To disable the inflatable restraint side impact module, skip to Step 13. To disable the entire SIR system, continue to Step 7.
  7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector, located under the instrument panel, left of the steering column.

  8. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector.

  9. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint I/P module inline connector located under the instrument panel, left of the steering column.

  10. Disconnect the inflatable restraint I/P module inline connector.

  11. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint side impact module - LF connector located under the driver seat.
  12. Disconnect the side impact module - LF connector.

  13. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint side impact module - RF connector located under the passenger seat.
  14. Disconnect the side impact module - RF connector.
