Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  4. Remove the LH I/P outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Chevrolet) or Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement (Pontiac) in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
    IMPORTANT: With the AIR BAG fuse removed and the ignition switch in the RUN position, the AIR BAG warning lamp illuminates. This is a normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  5. Remove the AIR BAG fuse from the LH I/P wiring harness junction block.

  6. Remove the LH door trim panel (2). Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door (Pontiac) or Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door (Chevrolet) in Doors.

  7. Remove the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS)-LH (1) from the LH door (4). Refer to Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor Replacement (Sedan)  or Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor Replacement (Coupe) .

  8. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (3) from the SIS-LH connector (4).

  9. Disconnect the SIS-LH connector (4).
