Radio/Audio System Description and Operation: Notes

Battery positive voltage is provided to the radio from the RDO/INTLP/ONSTAR fuse in the fuse block-I/P. The radio is grounded to G302 and G303. The radio is enabled/disabled by class 2 messages from the body control module (BCM).

The Entertainment System on this vehicle is configured with a base and uplevel system. The base and uplevel systems contain a radio, antenna, speakers, and on some vehicle lines an audio amplifier.

The uplevel system differs from the base system by providing the customer with enhanced audio system features. Some of those features may include the radio data system (RDS), an audio amplifier and programmable equalizer (EQ). Satellite digital radio (U2K) is available with uplevel systems.

Uplevel Radio (UNO) - AM/FM Stereo, CD, EQ
Uplevel Radio (US8) - AM/FM Stereo, CD, MP3, EQ, and RDS

Radio Features

Power	Push PWR/VOL knob to turn the radio on.	Push the Power knob to turn the radio on.	Push PWR/VOL knob to turn the radio on.
Volume	The volume is adjusted by rotating the PWR/VOL knob.	The volume is adjusted by rotating the Volume knob.	The volume is adjusted by rotating the PWR/VOL knob.
Speed Compensated Volume (SCV)	N/A	Pontiac (U1P & U1Q) - Press the SCV button. Chevrolet (UP0) - Press AUTO VOL. Adjust the SCV by pressing SCV (Pontiac) or AUTO VOL (Chevrolet) until the desired volume setting appears on the display. Three settings are available; LOW, MEDIUM, and HIGH.	Pontiac - Press the SCV button. Chevrolet - Press AUTO VOL. Adjust the SCV by pressing SCV (Pontiac) or AUTO VOL (Chevrolet) until the desired volume setting appears on the display. Three settings are available; LOW, MEDIUM, and HIGH.
Tune	Turn the TUNE knob.
Seek	Momentarily press the SEEK/SCAN button.
Scan	Hold the SEEK/SCAN button at least 2 seconds until a single beep is heard.
Presets	Six AM, Six FM1 and Six FM2
Preset Saving	Press and hold the desired numbered preset button until an audible beep is heard.
Preset Scan	Press and hold SEEK button at least 4 seconds until a double beep is heard.
Set Clock	Press and hold the HR or MN button until an audible beep indicates the time set mode has been entered. Once the beep is heard, the time can be set by tapping each button to incrementally adjust the time. Holding down each button will rapidly change the time.
Recall	Push the RCL/TUNE knob.	Push the TUNE knob.	Pontiac - Push TUNE knob. Chevrolet - Push DISP button.
Mute	Steering Wheel Control only. Press the MUTE button to silence the system. Press it again, or any other radio button, to turn on the sound.
Fade or Balance	Press and release AUDIO until BAL or FAD appears on display. Press the up or down arrow to select. To set bass or treble to the middle position, select desired tone control. Press and hold AUDIO for 2 seconds or more until a beep is heard. The letter L and a zero or F and a zero will appear on the display. To set all tone and speaker controls to the middle position, end out of audio mode: Press and hold AUDIO for 2 seconds or more until a beep is heard. The radio will display CEN.	Pontiac - Press and release the BAL FADE button to select and adjust with the SELECT knob. Chevrolet - Press and release the P-TYPE LIST/AUDIO knob. Turn the knob to adjust.
Bass, Treble or Midrange	Press and release AUDIO until BAS or TRE appears on display. Press the up or down arrow to select. To set bass or treble to the middle position, select desired tone control. Press and hold AUDIO for 2 seconds or more until a beep is heard. The letter B and a zero or T and a zero will appear on the display. To set all tone and speaker controls to the middle position, end out of audio mode: Press and hold AUDIO for 2 seconds or more until a beep is heard. The radio will display CEN.	Pontiac - Press and release the TONE button to select and adjust with the SELECT knob. Chevrolet - Press and release the P-TYPE LIST/AUDIO knob. Turn the knob to adjust.
Programmable Equalizer	N/A	Pontiac - Press the EQ button to choose and program preset bass and treble equalization settings. Chevrolet - Press the AUTO TONE button to choose and program preset bass and treble equalization settings.
