Power Door Locks Inoperative - Passenger Door (W/O Keyless Entry)

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check for the door systems? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Door Systems 
2 Verify that the power door locks are inoperative.
Does the system operate normally?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Are all of the door locks completely inoperative? Go to Step 4  Go to Step 12

  1. Disconnect the driver side door lock switch connector.
  2. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit at the disconnected door lock switch connector with a test lamp connected to ground.
Did the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 5 
5 Test the battery positive feed circuit to the door lock switches for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 6 
6 Test the battery positive voltage circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 7 
7 Test the door lock and unlock control circuits for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 19 
8 Test the door lock and unlock control circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 9 
9 Test the door lock actuator lock and unlock circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 10 
10 Test each ground circuit to the passenger door lock switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 11

  1. Probe the door unlock control circuit at the disconnected door lock switch connector with a test lamp connected to battery positive voltage.
  2. Press the passenger door lock switch to the Unlock position and note if the test lamp stops illuminating while the switch is pressed.
  3. Probe the door lock control circuit at the disconnected door lock switch connector with a test lamp connected to battery positive voltage.
  4. Press the passenger door lock switch to the Lock position and note if the test lamp stops illuminating while the switch is pressed.
Did the test lamp go out each time the switch was pressed for the appropriate circuit being tested?
Go to Step 17  Go to Step 18 
12 Are one of the door lock switches inoperative? Go to Step 13  Go to Step 14 
13 Test the battery positive voltage circuit to the inoperative door lock switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 16 
14 Test the door lock actuator lock/unlock circuits to the inoperative door lock actuator for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 15 
15 Inspect for poor connections at the door lock actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 20 
16 Inspect for poor connections at the inoperative door lock switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 21 
17 Inspect for poor connections at the driver door lock switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 21 
18 Inspect for poor connections at the passenger door lock switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 21 
19 Repair the short to ground in the door lock actuator lock or unlock circuits. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Is the repair complete?
Go to Step 22  -
20 Replace the defective door lock. Refer toLock Replacement - Front Door  or Lock Replacement - Rear Door .
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 22  -
21 Replace the defective door lock switch. Refer to Power Door Lock Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 22  -

  1. Replace the PWR ACC 15A Fuse if necessary.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you find and correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
