Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the power steering pump to the engine. Refer to Figure.
    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Install the power steering pump mounting bolts.

    Tighten the mounting bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).

  3. Install the power steering hoses to the power steering pump. Refer to the following procedures:
  4. Install the drive belt to the power steering pump. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT .
  5. Fill the power steering pump with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  6. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
