Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install the power steering gear (1) to the front suspension crossmember (2).
- Install the power steering gear mounting bolts (3).
Hand tighten the bolts.
- Raise the front suspension crossmember (2) into position on the vehicle.NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
- Install the front suspension crossmember mounting bolts.
- 4.1. Tighten the left rear outboard bolt to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).
- 4.2. Tighten the right rear outboard bolt to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).
- 4.3. Tighten the rear inboard bolts to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).
- 4.4. Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to 120 N.m (89 lb ft).
- Install the lower pinch bolt to the intermediate shaft. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT .
- Install the brake pipes to the retainers on the front suspension crossmember (2).
- Install the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement - Outer .
- Install the power steering hoses to the power steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement (2.2L (LN2)) and Power Steering Return Hose Replacement (2.2L (L61) and 2.4L (LD9)) .
- Install the tires and wheels. Refer to TIRE & WHEEL REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
- Align the front wheels. Refer to MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT .
