Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the power steering gear (1) to the front suspension crossmember (2).

  3. Install the power steering gear mounting bolts (3).

    Hand tighten the bolts.

  4. Raise the front suspension crossmember (2) into position on the vehicle.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  5. Install the front suspension crossmember mounting bolts.
    1. 4.1. Tighten the left rear outboard bolt to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).
    2. 4.2. Tighten the right rear outboard bolt to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).
    3. 4.3. Tighten the rear inboard bolts to 110 N.m (71 lb ft).
    4. 4.4. Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to 120 N.m (89 lb ft).
  6. Install the lower pinch bolt to the intermediate shaft. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT .
  7. Install the brake pipes to the retainers on the front suspension crossmember (2).
  8. Install the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement - Outer .
  9. Install the power steering hoses to the power steering gear. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement (2.2L (LN2))  and Power Steering Return Hose Replacement (2.2L (L61) and 2.4L (LD9))  .
  10. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to TIRE & WHEEL REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
  12. Align the front wheels. Refer to MEASURING WHEEL ALIGNMENT .
