Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Allow the front suspension to hang free.
  2. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Remove the lower pinch bolt from the intermediate shaft. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT .
  4. Remove the stabilizer shaft links (6). Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .

  5. Support the front suspension crossmember with a suitable jackstand.
  6. Remove the rear mounting bolts from the front suspension crossmember.
  7. Remove the center mounting bolts from the front suspension crossmember.
  8. Remove the front mounting bolts from the front suspension crossmember.
  9. Lower the front suspension crossmember approximately 15 cm (6 in) by adjusting the jackstand down.
  10. Remove the stabilizer shaft insulator brackets (2) retaining bolts (1).

  11. Remove the stabilizer shaft (3) from the vehicle.
