Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Assemble the following components:
    • The rotator (intake)
    • The valve spring seat (exhaust)
    • A new, clean and dry valve seal. Push the seal on by hand in order to ensure that the seal is fully seated.
    • The spring and retainer. Use the J 36588  and the J 5892-D  in order to compress the valve spring.
    • The valve keys.
  2. Inspect for proper valve key seating.
  3. Remove the air line adapter.
  4. Install the spark plug.
    NOTE: Carefully roll the camshaft housing right side up as it is installed onto the cylinder head. The lifters can be damaged if they fall out and hit a hard surface.
  5. Install the camshaft housing. Refer to Exhaust Camshaft, Housing & Lifter Replacement  or Intake Camshaft, Housing & Lifter Replacement  .
  6. Install the timing chain housing to the camshaft housing and timing chain. Refer to Timing Chain Housing Replacement .
  7. Connect the electrical connection to the oil pressure switch.
  8. Install the ignition coil and module assembly.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
