Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the camshaft housing. Refer to Intake Camshaft, Housing & Lifter Replacement  for the intake camshaft housing. Refer to Exhaust Camshaft, Housing & Lifter Replacement  for the exhaust camshaft housing.
  3. Disassemble the oil gallery plug as follows:
    1. 3.1. Using a 8.33 mm (21/64 in) bit, drill the oil gallery plug.
    2. 3.2. With a 10.0 mm (0.3937 in) bottoming tap, thread the plug.
    3. 3.3. Install a 10.0 mm bolt into the plug and pull the plug out.
  4. Clean the oil gallery plug hole.
