Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement .
  2. Remove the upper timing chain guide.

  3. Install the J 43655  .

  4. Remove both the intake and the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolts and discard.

  6. Slide the camshaft sprockets forward.
  7. Mark the bearing caps to ensure that the bearing caps are installed in the original position.

    Important:  Remove each bolt on each cap one turn at a time until there is no spring tension on the camshaft.

  8. Remove the bearing caps.

  10. Remove the exhaust camshaft.
  11. Remove the camshaft roller followers.

  12. Remove the hydraulic element lash adjusters.
