Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  3. Remove the generator.
  4. Remove the power steering pump. Position the pump aside. Keep the lines attached.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  7. Remove the crankshaft pulley and hub. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer & Hub Replacement .
  8. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
  9. Remove the engine front cover. If necessary, carefully use a rubber mallet to loosen the cover.
  10. Clean the sealing surface on the engine block.
  11. Clean the sealing surface on the engine front cover.
