Camshaft & Housing - Cleaning & Inspection

  1. Inspect the valve lifters for scoring where the valve lifters contact the camshaft.
  2. Inspect the camshaft journals and lobes for wear or scoring (1, 2).

  3. Inspect the camshaft sprocket bolt holes for damaged threads (3).
  4. Inspect the camshaft sprocket alignment pin for damage and straightness (4).
  5. Inspect the camshaft housing and cover for scoring in lifter bores and camshaft journals.
  6. Clean the camshaft housing and cover.
    • Wash the camshaft housing and cover in solvent.
    • Remove all traces of RTV from the power steering pump seal area on the intake camshaft housing and cover.
    • Inspect the camshaft housing and cover for cracks or other signs of damage.
