Balance Shaft Drive Sprocket Inspection

  1. Clean all of the drive sprocket parts in cleaning solvent. Remove the varnish, the sludge, and the dirt.
  2. Inspect the sprocket teeth for the following conditions:
    • Bent teeth
    • Broken teeth
    • Chips
    • Ground off teeth
  3. Inspect the sprocket for the following conditions:
    • Burrs
    • Scored surfaces
  4. If the sprocket is to be replaced, inspect the crankshaft for burrs or nicks.
