Oil Pump - Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the oil pump drive. Do this by twisting the oil pump drive into place.
  2. Install the oil pump drive bolt. Tighten the oil pump drive bolt to 25 N.m (18 ft lbs).

  3. Heat the oil pump drive shaft retainer in hot water.
  4. Install the oil pump drive shaft retainer on the oil pump drive shaft.

    Important:  Do not crack the oil pump drive shaft retainer when installing the oil pump drive shaft.

  5. Install the oil pump drive shaft into the oil pump.

  6. Install the oil pump.
  7. Install the bolt that attaches the oil pump to the rear main bearing cap. Tighten the bolt that attaches the oil pump to the rear main bearing cap to 43 N.m (32 ft lbs).
