Shock Absorber Replacement: Removal

  1. Reposition the rear compartment carpet to allow access to the shock absorber upper mounting nut (1). Remove the shock absorber upper mounting nut (1). See Fig 1.
  2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in TIRES AND WHEELS.
  3. Place a jackstand under the rear axle in order to maintain tension on the shock absorber (5). Remove the shock absorber upper mounting bolts (2). See Fig 1.
  4. Lower the jackstand in order to relieve tension on the shock absorber (5). Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt (4). Remove the shock absorber (5) from the vehicle. See Fig 1.
