Brake Warning Indicator Always On

  1. Did you perform the Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - HYDRAULIC BRAKES  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Release the park brake. With a scan tool, observe the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in the Body Control Module data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter is Off? If so, go to step  5 . If not, go to next step.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the park brake switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter is Off? If so, go to step  6 . If not, go to next step.
  4. Test the park brake switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  8 . If not, go to step  7 .
  5. Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See appropriate GAUGES & INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the replacement? If so, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace the park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace the body control module. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the replacement? If so, go to next step.
  8. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to  2 .
