Test Procedure

- If you were sent here from SYMPTOMS - HYDRAULIC BRAKES , go to next step. If you were not sent here from SYMPTOMS - HYDRAULIC BRAKES , see DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT - HYDRAULIC BRAKES under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Inspect the brake fluid level. Is the brake fluid level okay? If so, go to next step. If not, see BRAKE SYSTEM FLUID LOSS under SYMPTOM TESTING.
- Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH parameter in the BCM data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH parameter is okay? If so, check for intermittent problem. If not, go to next step.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH parameter is okay? If so, go to step 6 . If not, go to next step.
- Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 10 . If not, go to step 7 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 10 . If not, go to step 8 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 10 . If not, go to step 9 .
- Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 10 .
- Replace the BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 10 .
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step 2 .
