Wheel Cylinder: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  . Clean any debris and contaminants from around the wheel cylinder.
  3. Remove the wheel cylinder bleeder cap and valve.
  4. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the wheel cylinder. Cap the exposed brake pipe end to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
  5. Remove the wheel cylinder mounting bolts.
  6. Using the Brake Shoe Spanner and Spring Remover, spread the top of the brake shoes apart, then remove the wheel cylinder from the brake backing plate.
