Wheel Cylinder: Installation

  1. Using the Brake Shoe Spanner and Spring Remover, spread the top of the brake shoes apart, then install the wheel cylinder to the brake backing plate.
  2. Install the wheel cylinder mounting bolts. Tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Remove the cap from the brake pipe end. Connect the brake pipe fitting at the wheel cylinder. Tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the wheel cylinder bleeder valve. Tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  .
  6. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. See BLEEDING THE BRAKE SYSTEM  .
  7. Install the bleeder valve cap. Adjust the drum brakes. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  in DRUM BRAKE SYSTEM under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.
