Drum Brake Backing Plate: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  .
  3. Remove the brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES  .
  4. Remove the universal spring from the brake backing plate. Release the rear park brake cable end fitting from the drum brake backing plate.
  5. Remove the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDER  .
  6. Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Remove the brake backing plate.
