Drum Brake Adjusting Hardware: Installation

  1. Using the Brake Shoe Spanner and Spring Remover, spread the top of the brake shoes apart and install the adjuster assembly to the brake shoes.
  2. Install the adjuster actuator lever to the pivot and the adjuster assembly. Ensure that the lever is properly engaged between the adjuster assembly and the brake shoe.
    3. NOTE: Do not over stretch the adjuster spring. Damage can occur if the spring is over stretched.
  3. Install the adjuster spring. Ensure that the loop end of the spring fully engages the tab on the actuator lever.
  4. Adjust the drum brakes. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  in DRUM BRAKE SYSTEM under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
  5. Install the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  .
  6. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.
