Diagnostic Procedure

- If SIR Diagnostic System Check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR Diagnostic System Check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Install scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below left side of instrument panel. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, inspect and repair data link communication circuits.
- If scan tool communicates with SDM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with SDM, inspect and repair data link communication circuits.
- Select SIR DTC display on scan tool. If scan tool displays DTC's, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC's, check for malfunctioning data link communication circuits, addition of aftermarket accessories or damage to vehicle. Carefully inspect vehicle for signs of damage or conditions that could cause poor or intermittent electrical connections. Diagnose air bag warning light. See AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION .
- If scan tool displays DTC's that start with "U", inspect and repair data link communication circuits. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, go to DTC B1000 . If scan tool displays other DTC's, perform appropriate diagnostic procedures. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION table.
