- If powertrain diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If powertrain diagnostic system check was not performed, go to POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM TESTS. After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.NOTE: If any other CMP sensor DTC are set, diagnose those DTCs first. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
- Start and operate engine at idle for 2 minutes. Using scan tool, monitor FAILED THIS IGNITION display under DTC P0341. If scan tool indicates that test fails this ignition, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that test fails this ignition, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Locate CMP sensor. See Figure. Visually inspect CMP sensor circuits for routing too close to secondary ignition components, aftermarket components, solenoids, relays and motors. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go step 8. If routing is okay, go to next step.
- Check for poor CMP sensor terminal connections at PCM connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 8. If connection or terminal tension is okay, go to next step.
- Remove intake manifold to access CMP sensor. See appropriate article in ENGINES. Check for poor connections at CMP sensor connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 8. If connections are okay, go to next step.
- Remove CMP and visually inspect CMP sensor reluctor wheel for damage. Replace or repair reluctor wheel as necessary. See appropriate article in ENGINES. If reluctor wheel is okay, go to next step.
- Replace CMP sensor. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - CARS article. After replacing sensor, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for at least 30 seconds. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Operate vehicle within conditions for setting this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this test ran and passed, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that this test ran and passed, go to step 2.
- Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTCs are displayed, go to applicable DTC test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no undiagnosed DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
