Rear Cover: Installation

  1. Apply a 1/4 inch bead of Sealer (12378190) to corners where oil pan meets block. Install rear cover and NEW gasket, leaving bolts finger tight. Rotate the crankshaft until the 2 opposing flywheel bolts are parallel to oil pan surface. See Fig 1 .

  2. Install Front/Rear Cover Alignment (J-41476) onto rear of crankshaft. Tighten tool retaining bolts until snug. Tighten rear cover-to-block bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 N.m). Tighten oil pan-to-rear cover bolts to 106 INCH lbs. (12 N.m). Tighten oil pan-to-front cover and oil pan-to-block bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 N.m). Remove front/rear cover alignment tool from crankshaft. Install NEW rear seal using Rear Oil Seal Installer (J-41479). Reinstall flywheel and transmission. Tighten bolts to specification.
