Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM in Engine Cooling.
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. Remove the generator. Refer to 3.8L ENGINE in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the heater hoses from the drive belt tensioner.

  5. Remove the drive belt tensioner bolts (3).

  6. Remove the drive belt tensioner (2).
  7. Remove the thermostat bypass pipes (1,4) from the tensioner (2), if necessary.
