Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM in Engine Cooling.
  2. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  3. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Replacement .
  4. Loosen all of the oil pan bolts.
  5. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts.
  6. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing.

  7. Remove the rear oil seal housing gasket.
  8. Clean the gasket surfaces of the oil seal housing and the engine block.
  9. Inspect the inside diameter of the oil seal housing bore. Replace the crankshaft rear oil seal housing as required.
  10. Inspect the crankshaft for nicks or burrs on the surface that contacts the seal.
  11. Repair or replace the crankshaft if necessary.
