Removal (3.8L)

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the starter. See STARTERS - CAMARO & FIREBIRD article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
  3. Remove the transmission brace bolts (5) attaching the left brace (4) to the engine block. See Fig 1.
  4. Remove the transmission brace nut (1) attaching the left brace (4) to the transmission. See Fig 1.
  5. Remove the left side transmission brace (4). See Fig 1.
  6. Remove the transmission torque converter cover bolt (3). See Fig 1.
  7. Remove the right side engine mount. See ENGINE MOUNTS .
  8. Remove the transmission brace bolts (2, 3) attaching the right brace (4) to the engine block. See Fig 2.
  9. Remove the transmission brace nut (6) attaching the right brace (4) to the transmission. See Fig 2.
  10. Remove the right side transmission brace (4). See Fig 2.
  11. Remove the transmission converter cover bolt (1). See Fig 2.
  12. Remove the transmission converter cover (5) from the vehicle. See Fig 2.
