Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under driver-side instrument panel, to right of steering column. Using scan tool, verify Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is programmed with correct VIN by comparing to VIN plate on vehicle. If VIN's match, go to step  4. If VIN's do not match, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, reprogram PCM with correct VIN. Go to step  8.
  4. If IPC was not replaced, go to next step. If IPC was replaced, go to step  6.
  5. Compare IPC VIN to vehicle VIN. If IPC VIN and vehicle VIN match, go to step  7. If IPC VIN and vehicle VIN do not match, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool, reprogram IPC following scan tool instructions under IPC SPECIAL FUNCTIONS. Go to step  8.
  7. Turn ignition off. Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all SIR components. Using scan tool, clear all DTC's. Road test vehicle. Using scan tool, request SIR DTC display. If DTC B1001 is retrieved by scan tool, go to step  2. If DTC B1001 is not retrieved by scan tool, system is okay. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
