When ignition switch is turned to RUN position, Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) flashes AIR BAG warning light 7 times. During this time, Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) performs diagnostic tests on Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. If SIR system checks okay, SDM commands IPC to turn off AIR BAG warning light.
AIR BAG warning light is controlled by SDM via Class 2 serial data. If ignition positive voltage (IGN1) is outside of normal operating range (9-16 volts), SDM will command IPC to turn AIR BAG warning light on with no DTC's stored in memory.
