Malfunction Indicator Lamp Inoperative: Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Battery voltage is supplied directly to the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) turns the MIL ON by grounding the MIL control circuit. There should be a steady MIL with the ignition ON and the engine OFF. The ignition feed voltage is supplied directly to the MIL. If the ignition is ON, with the engine OFF, and there is not a MIL, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set. This condition suggests that there is an open in the MIL control circuit.
