Diagnostic Aids

NOTE: Remove any debris from the PCM connector surfaces before servicing the PCM. Inspect the PCM connector gaskets when diagnosing/replacing the PCM. Ensure that the gaskets are installed correctly. The gaskets prevent contaminate intrusion into the PCM.

Many situations may lead to an intermittent condition. The following list is to be used as a guide to assist in detecting an intermittent:

Inspect the harness connector for the following conditions:
1. Loose terminal connections.
2. Backed out terminals.
3. Improper mating.
4. Broken locks.
5. Improperly formed or damaged terminals.
6. Faulty terminal to wire connections. Use a corresponding mating terminal to test for proper tension.
Inspect the wiring harness for damage. If the harness inspection does not reveal a concern, observe the display on the scan tool while moving connectors and wiring harnesses related to the sensor. A change in the scan tool display may indicate the location of the fault.
Inspect the PCM and the engine grounds for clean and secure connections.
