Fuel Tank: Removal

- Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain the fuel tank. See FUEL TANK DRAINING . Raise and support vehicle. Remove fuel fill pipe shield from inner fenderwell. Remove the fuel tank fill pipe support bracket bolt. See Fig 1 .
- Support the rear axle housing with an adjustable jack stand. Remove track bar bolt and nut from the spring seat. See Fig 2 . Remove the track bar bracket brace bolts from the body brace bracket. Remove the track bar bolts and nuts from the body brace and track bar bracket. Remove the track bar. Remove the track bar bracket brace.
- Remove the driver side rear tire and wheel. Ensure the rear axle is supported with adjustable jack stands. Remove the passenger side rear stabilizer bar end link. Remove the passenger side rear shock lower nut. Remove the rear shock from the rear axle.
- Remove the torque arm bolts at the rear axle. See Fig 3 . Lower the rear axle slightly, using the adjustable jack stands. Remove the passenger side rear coil spring and bushing. Remove the left exhaust hanger from the underbody. Loosen the exhaust pipe clamp.
- Lower the right side of the rear axle enough to remove the muffler. Remove the muffler by rotating and sliding the muffler out from behind the vehicle. Remove the exhaust pipe heat shield and the exhaust muffler heat shield. Clean all fuel pipe connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting the fuel pipes in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
- Disconnect the fuel return pipe and EVAP purge pipe at the rear quick-connect fitting. See Fig 4 . See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS .
- Disconnect the fuel feed pipe at the fuel filter inlet. Cap the fuel pipes in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination. Remove the rear pipe clip. See Fig 4 . Support fuel tank. Remove fuel tank strap attaching bolts. Carefully lower fuel tank. Disconnect the wiring harness from the fuel sender assembly and fuel pressure sensor.
