Removal (5.7L)

NOTE:
An 8-digit identification number is stamped on the fuel rail assembly. Refer to this model identification number if servicing or part replacement is required.
- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Before removal, clean the fuel rail assembly with a spray type Engine Cleaner (GM X-30A) or equivalent, if necessary. Follow the package instructions. Do not soak fuel rails in liquid cleaning solvent.
- Disconnect the fuel feed hose from the fuel rail using proper procedure for fuel line fitting. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS .
- Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body. Move the accelerator cable aside. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. See Figure . Identify the connectors to their corresponding injectors to ensure correct sequential injector firing order after reassembly.
- Disconnect the electrical harness from the fuel rail brackets. Remove the fuel rail attaching bolts. Remove the fuel rail assembly. Remove the injector lower "O" ring seal from the spray tip end of each injector. Discard the "O" ring seals.
- To remove injector(s) from the fuel rail, remove the fuel injector retainer clip. Discard retaining clip. Remove the fuel injector from the fuel rail. Remove and discard the fuel injector upper "O" ring.
NOTE:
Remove the fuel rail assembly carefully in order to prevent damage to the injector electrical connector terminals and the injector spray tips. Support the fuel rail after the fuel rail is removed in order to avoid damaging the fuel rail components. Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering open pipes and passages.
